I really want to keep this on but constantly accidentally open it. Would be nice if I could set a delay such as a 1 sec hold-in-place before it opens instead of immediately upon touching the right side of your screen

You can disable the glide in settings so you don't trigger it. But I feel you. For me the wallet should only automatically open when prompted by a dApp because user needs to sign.
